Physiotherapy for Joint Pain

You’ll work one on one with your physical therapist to come up with a treatment plan. He’ll discuss ways to rebuild the strength and movement in your joints, so you can feel better and go back to doing the things you love to do. Overall, physiotherapy can help you prevent, alleviate or reduce the further degeneration of weak and painful joints.

We’ve helped people of all ages treat joint pain. Request a call below to discuss how we can help you.

Understanding Joint Pain

Joint pain can be discomfort, pain or inflammation arising from any part of a joint — including cartilage, bone, ligaments, tendons or muscles. Most commonly, however, joint pain refers to arthritis or arthralgia, which is inflammation or pain from within the joint itself. Joint pain can be mild, causing soreness only after certain activities, or it can be severe, making even limited movement, particularly bearing weight, extremely painful.

There are many types of joint injuries and conditions, which can be treated successfully by Physiotherapy. These range from elbow, ankle, ligament and cartilage problems to tendon and muscular strains. Joint pain can also be due to overuse injuries, sudden injuries or conditions such as arthritis, gout or infections. We are experts in assessing the cause of joint pain and treating the problem effectively.

Joint pain has many causes and your treatment varies considerably depending on an accurate diagnosis. Treatment can involve simple knee mobilization techniques, massage, taping, stretches or strengthening exercises.

Can Joint Injuries Be Prevented?

You can reduce the chance and severity of joint injuries by:

  • Warming up and warming down before and after exercise.
  • Building up your exercise program by gradually increasing the frequency, duration and intensity, but don’t work through pain.
  • Maintain good general fitness and lower body strength and flexibility (especially calf, quadriceps, and hamstring).
  • Practice standing on one leg to improve your balance and leg muscle strength.
